Reviews of Explosions d'Emotions : Haute Voltige by L'Artisan Parfumeur

The opening blast is grenade - a pomegranate to be precise. Soon a peony is added in, and after a few minutes the pomegranate retreats a bit, and a bright and restrained pepper is added in. These three Ps combine to a nice set of top notes.

The drydown enhances the pepper temporarily, and adds a juniper that expresses itself in a lightly bitter and metallic fashion.

The base presents a highly synthetic oakmoss that is only a paltry shadow of the real thing. In the background is a woodsy impression, and a balsam fir that is so weak that it hardly makes itself known. Towards the end I get a sweetness that is hard to pinpoint but that takes whiffs of a nigh-buttery nature.

I get moderate sillage, adequate projection, and an excellent eleven hours of longevity on my skin.

The pomegranate in this spring creation is quite well done here, as is the peony, but the Ref is too generic to offer real satisfaction. The performance is very good. The overall score is 2.75/5.

a fun scent. I dont take it that seriously, because its not something that forces me to straighten my back, so to speak. But nevertheless, its the best pomegranate scent, Ive come across..

Haute Voltige was a smidgen disappointing on first try: it was pretty, but didn't seem distinctive or interesting. I likened it to a high-quality shampoo scent in describing it. At the end of the day, though, it wore well, and I liked it well enough, although it seemed to be a "sample only" perfume. Then I wore it again. And I realized how pretty the opening was: an unfurling of flowers and pomegranate, touched with a sharp, woody, spicy note, and perhaps most importantly, pepper you can almost taste. It's a delicious and tart opening, a very auspicious beginning. Further on, it stays like that with only a bit of settling down, becoming a bit woodier and less sharp, but still a lush yet clean florally fruit (not a fruity floral to me, because the fruit is much more prominent), with a snappy pepper kick, which is just the right note.

My initial conclusion was wrong: Haute Voltige has turned out to be a full-bottle fragrance for me. It's not a surprising scent for the most part, except for that perfect, feisty pepper note. I still think it has a "shampoo fragrance" quality to it, but nothing's wrong with that. Haute Voltige surprised me, in a good way.

The pomegranate and fir combination is lovely and unexpected. Sadly, it only lasts 5 minutes. Then there is a wan little drydown that smells just like old-fashioned school paste, and within 30 minutes, it's gone forever.... It seems like within the series, this was merely a sketch, or preliminary idea. Others in the series are much, much better.

This is a simple and pleasing fresh fruity fragrance that smells like something that I'm sure many of you tasted it and enjoyed it many times specially when you were a kid!

The opening of this fragrance is a fresh and slightly tart pomegranate smell that kind of smells like strawberry as well and there is musk to warm it up a little bit and make it semi sweet. there is also a fresh peppery feel and a little naughty and woody smell but both in the background.
The whole idea of this scent reminds me of the taste of fruity gummy bear and if I would be more specific those red ones that they do taste like strawberry or cherry and in this case pomegranate.
When you smell it close you can feel that hint of woody bitterness and some peppery feel but when you smell it in the air surrounding you it does smell like red gummy bear that actually made me laugh so hard for about a minute!

As time goes by the tart feeling fades away and scent gets slightly more woody and more bitter but still very smooth and transparent. now in this part some floral notes show their faces but they are very faint and you have to look for it if you wan to smell it.

In the base I'm getting pretty the same thing as mid but now floral part is much easier to detect while fresh and semi sweet fruity note dominating and there are bright bitter woods beside it. no changes till the end.

Projection is very good and even though it's a fresh scent it projects really well and as far as longevity it stayed for about 5 hours on my skin.

I didn't realize this was mostly a pomegranate fragrance or I wouldn't have tried it. I don't care for pomegranate as a note, and most certainly not showcased as in Haute Voltige, with it's primary partner being a slightly burnt sugar. Yum. There is a hard brightness about pomegranate that is shrill on my skin and there are no notes in this fragrance which mitigate that - in fact this has a very weak supporting cast. They barely showed up for roll call. The sugar in sidestep with the pomegranate is never explained, but other notes which barely show up are all listed in the pyramid. In fact, if ANY other note listed had shown itself to more of a degree I would have liked Haute Voltige more. The fragrance seems unrealized and unbalanced. If you love pomegranate as a note, this is one for you.

Calone and melonal, melonal and calone. An incredibly cheap metallic-fruity scent as much dull as a '90s cheapo, with exactly the same poor, bitter, clumsy steel-like dryness. I personally can't believe they paid Duchaufour for this - and we still blame the IFRA for "ruining perfumery" as that was the main problem. Outrageous!
