The rose on this is sharpened by the fruit and spice in the top notes, and fleshed out by the musk and the amber. Still, it's all rose, all the time. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but the fragrance is SO big that one needs to either apply very sparingly or REALLY be in the mood for rose.

There's a coolness to the fragrance (likely helped by the mint and the jasmine) that makes it wear very clean. The citrus disappears fairly quickly. The warm notes in the base don't really appear until fairly late in the wear for me (>8 hours). As usual with Montale, the sillage and longevity are amazing. I would say that one's choice re: Golden Sand comes down to whether this rose is the rose for you. For me, it's not, but if I were gifted a bottle I'd keep it.
