Reviews of In Black by J del Pozo
I get sour cherry and licorice all the way through the development of In Black. The opening is a strong combination of these two notes. It smells like sugary cherries pickled in liqueur or dried fruits type cherries. It's very sweet, but well balanced with the woodiness of licorice, smells edible and addictive.
Towards the drydown, jasmine and vanilla seem to be amplified on me and the whole scent turns from oriental-fruity-gourmand to a more floral fragrance. Nevertheless, thanks to the always present cherry and licorice, the jasmine + sweet vanilla combo in In Black has its very own caracter. The sillage is not bad for an EDT and the longevity is around 7h.
I don't find it particularly 'dark' but I do agree with the similarity to Lolita Lempicka universe. It kind of switches between girl and woman, playfulness and maturity, like mystery under an innocent face.

Musky. Soft wood. Muted, gourmand-like, musty floral. Smoldering. Modern oriental.

Spicy cherry wrapped in a sweet dark dream. My first del pozo perfume which was bought totally unsniffed and I was happily surpised with its quality and unusual bottle. Long lasting suitable for all seasons even summer and never turns bitter in hot conditions. Lovely perfume and a "plus" for my collection. Love!!
Typical "new generation" glamour creamy potion (somewhat synthetic, floral/cosmetical and velvety) which sounds (smells) at the beginning like a sort of more properly masculine Bvlgari Jasmine Noir's version, I mean something floral and ambery with a dark patchouli, musk and vanilla in the blend. I detect hints of jasmine, tuberose, may be soft iris and violet. There are spices in the mix (probably nutmeg and cinnamon) and possibly hints of ripe fruits (plum, berries??) rounding the soapy/floral aroma. The dry down is even more soapy and balmy but somehow linear, "peaceful" and mild. After a pair of hours the balmy floral aroma (somewhat rosey and with a tuberose type of creaminess) conjures me more than vaguely the less "overshadowed" Secret Obsession by CK wich is less dark and more properly floral/cosmetical (less glamour oriental) in expression. Not bad in the complex (for the lovers of such synthetic androgynous fragrances). Longevity and projection are in the average.
P.S: the extremely soft musk/iris/vanilla combo is mastering in order to determine the basic smooth consistency over which the fruity/floral accord projects its trendy modernity.

As someone who tends towards leather fragrances I bought this blind,on reviews alone. The interesting thing to me is that when I put it into Michael Edwards 'if you like this then...' the result was Coco Mademoiselle. My daughter wears CM and so I was delighted that the 'In Black' resonated with me. The cherry is carnal.
My Irish Mother, a very bright lady with very little schooling (born 1927 as one of thirteen) worked as a housemaid in hotels, one or two international ones. Often she would arrive home with a perfume left behind by an International Traveller. I always had champagne tastes on a beer budget and these perfumes were our road kill.
Often unpronounceable to the Antipodean family I knew my 'Shocking' from my 'Weil de Weil', my Chanel from my Guerlain. Long story short. In Black is inexpensive and very agreeable, dead sexy actually. Good sillage, it morphs a little but that is awfully picky. I doubt that it will ever 'take me back' but my husband loves it

It's an interesting fragrance, but there's something lurking in the background that I find somewhat disturbing. It's hard to describe, but somehow it reminds me of the smell of spaghetti sauce, or perhaps the empy plastic container of the spaghetti sauce. However, In Black is very unique (though I also get the connection to Black Orchid). Not sure about this one...
I own most of J del Pozo's scents and they are all unique...this is no exception! When In black is first sprayed, I get a spicy black licorice and black cherry note. Within 15 minutes or so from the initial application, a mysterious, sensual, darkness starts to emerge. I would classify this as a spicy oriental/ fruity/ floral...if that makes sence (It does NOT smell like pure fruit or flowers at all)! IMO, a male could probably pull this fragrance off because there are many mascueline notes of spices and smoky woods. I think I also smell hints of rose and patchouli throught the intensity of the other notes. Once this mellows out on my skin, it reminds me of flavored tobacco (smells kinda like a black-n-mild filled with lusch cherry tobacco). I only wear In Black when I feel daring enough to wear a unique bold scent. The complexity in In Black is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and I admre that in a fragrance, even if I can't wear it every day!
As usual Jesus del Pozo offers an interesting, creative, and impressive fragrance. CoL's right, I, too, get some TF Black Orchid vibes from this: The main difference, though, is that I like this one and I do not like Black Orchid. In Black opens with a gourmand note… sweet, rosy and a bit foody, which soon changes to fruity sweet and floral. It is rather difficult for me to distinguish the particular floral notes… it's such an abundant bouquet. The drydown is sweet and woody, with patchouli and vanilla most in evidence on my skin. In Black is a real sleeper a fun fragrance that seems not very well known. I don't find it especially feminine it's more unisex. In Black is typical of J, del Pozo's offerings: It is unique and edgy, it's nicely put together, and it projects well. However, in this case, it doesn't have the best longevity.
Amazing, sexy, hot. I can't believe I haven't tried it before. Again, I bought it online without any idea about it because there was a deal and its bottle seemed fancy. My husband and I fell in love in the first second we smelled it. It has good lasting power. The only problem I have with this one is the old style perfume bottle. So it has two types of bottle. One is like the old times perfume bottle, I don't know its name. The other one is an ordinary spray bottle. I have the old style perfume bottle, I bought three old style bottles, two were for my sister and sister-in-law. None of them seemed working good. You can spray the perfume, but you need to spray more than you usually do, because it sprays air most of the time. Other than that, the scent is really really great. Sweet, but not like overdose sugar sweet. It is amazingly sexy. But definitely not for those. who adores flowery scents. To sum up, one of my favorite five.
Does anyone else get a strong sense of TF Black Orchid from this? Mainly the top notes but it does settle into something similar if more "mainstream".Amazing stuff! At a tenth of the price of Black Orchid too!
as a man, i felt in love with the smooth deepness of that one. very sensual red grapes surround you during the dry down. whether it is a women fragrance or not, i am gonna wear it.
Fado scent on my skin. Melancholy, sadness, plus something fake, unnatural. Sugar-coated black cherry on top, then cedar, violets and patch. Great bottle, though!
A really fun and nice perfume, this one makes me happy! One of the few perfumes I decided to get by the first sniff, and the love holds on. The bottle is very nice, too, and protekt the fluid from light, so it can stand on my chest of drawers, witch is an extra plus.
Interesting fragrance, sweet and strong roses at the first spray, then tends to soft powdered notes like vanilla and oriental woods. At the first notes it seems to be a night aimed sensual fragrance, but at the base notes it appears to be suitable for office and daytime use, both summer and winter seasons, for women in the range 25-70 years old.
...Yes I know, this is a women's perfume but I love it, someday a friend let me try her bottle...for her it is very good and feminine. but for me the topnote was very feminine too, but after 20 o 30 minutes the basenotes are a spectacular mixture of Vanilla+Chocolate it reminds me of Dior Addict and finally left in me a note of Tabaco with something sweet (I cannot describe what) and although I'm man (very very macho jeje) I bought for myself, anyway...is not the first women's perfume that I've used (Magnetic, Oleg Cassini, Escape, HOT, 273...etc).
I love In Black by J del Pozo. Very sweet with the black cherry prelevant when first applied. Drys down to a sweet soft powder that is so very feminine and sexy! A wonderful scent for winter. This scent contains Black Cherry, Black Pepper, Black Lily, Licorice Wood, Madagascan Vanilla, Pink Grapefruit, Rose, Jasmine, Moroccan Cedar, Violet, Jasmine, and Indonesian Patchouli.
