L'Eau de Paille fragrance notes
- cereal accord, vetiver, incense
Latest Reviews of L'Eau de Paille
IsoE might make very good products if it is applied creatively, but L'Eau de Paille is not a great example of that. Here it results is a nonspecifically sweet woodsy impression, with slightly fruity and ozonic undertones.
Some vetiver adds a brighter background, whilst a smooth, light and gently incense impression after a few hours.
I get moderate village, very good projection, and ten hours of longevity on my skin.
This scent for warmer summer days performs week, but otherwise it is not particularly enticing. All the ingredients are quite generic, overly synthetic, and the development is pretty linear on me. This is not a realistic or convincing realisation of the straw promised in its name.
Eau de Paille is not a good straw scent, and it is pale in quality indeed, unless one enjoys such overly laboratory-inspired creations. 1.75/5

Paille = "straw" in French.
Agree that this is a generic style of fresh woody scent. The L'Eau series are supposed to be cool/frosty alternates to the usual rich opulent SL style. This one smells very synthetic, detergent-y, a bit metallic and quite unappealing. I like vetiver and incense, and find nothing of the sort here. I would get a headache wearing this.

Don't be fooled by the label.
This is the same generic oceanic woody scent that has been selling in drug store brands for the past thirty years. Except for the bitter oud-like wood, it is practically scent-less.
Vetiver, Frankincense, Wheat, Grass? I don't think so. It's a rip off of a bad scent idea with a high price tag.
Lutens has entered the arena of the Emperor sans garments, hoping no one will notice.
Tough luck! I did. Not worth the electricity it took to bring up this page.

BLUF: My unrefined nose basically got a lighter version of Montale's Red Aoud minus the "oud".
It's a sweet toasted tonka blast upon application with a touch of incense, really just a smidge. Cereal accord? Definitely leans gourmand but cereal seems a bit of a stretch (and honestly not something I'd like to smell of). To be fair, I'm not well-versed in the field of cerealology, so perhaps there is a "Tonka Flakes" or "Honey Bunches-O-Tonka" that I'm unaware of...so perhaps they nailed it.
Overall a fairly synthetic feel, not in a negative way though, it's just apparent. As a side note, this is my first experience with Serge Lutens, despite being a decade into my fragrance fascination (I know right?).
I like Red Aoud better, but not big on either it or L'Eau de Paille. Neutral for now.
