This is modern Guerlain at its best, blending the house’s classic style (signature citrus top against an ambery backdrop), on the one hand, with a contemporary sensibility (a warm and dusty cacao that gestures toward gourmand-adjacent territory), on the other.

The late Béatrice Piquet did something special in this 2004 masculine. The hesperidic top with anise and lavender feels bright as day, but it’s the marriage of cacao and patchouli that’s the main story here. It makes for an earthy, chocolatey, warm, and ambery profile; an impression that the elemi resin in the base serves to deepen. A lapsang souchong tea leaf aspect is present, giving it a faint but distinctive peaty smokiness.

The overall effect is bright, warm, boozy, and semisweet, with a silky smooth creaminess that is suave and inviting. The patchouli threads a needle to the musky floral base provided by the hibiscus seed, rendering the long drydown soft, supple, and natural. It wears lightly yet has a robustness and an elegance that make it versatile: it feels just as fitting with a suit and a tie as it does with jeans and a white tee.

My favorite Guerlain masculine of the 21st century. Gorgeous.

Thumbs up all the way! As of 2004, modern perfumerie was 3 or 4 years away from destroying itself so this fragrance is beautiful. Guerlain just may be the best overall fragrance house. Period! L'Instant EDT is a versatile classic that deserves more recognition than it gets. This scent has many different flavors and can be worn morning noon and night, Sunday through Saturday, January through December.any different notes accent this piece and has good longevity too. I don't wear it nearly as often as I should.

A pleasant good quality spice combination that is smooth and easy to like. Seems there is an extraordinary scent of both vanilla and cacao combined but maybe that is the lesser known elemi coming into play. Hard to say. The dry down is masculine and pleasant although it's a bit heavy for me. Not 'musky' which is a compliment. Another unique and high quality men's fragrance from Guerlain. Suitable for a cool spring day or a brisk windy afternoon in autumn. Not a summer peak fragrance I don't think - but too each his own.

Very pleasant cheap freshie but lacks interest and depth for me. Minty lemon pepper patchouli.
Lacking.

One of my favourites, it's a light, modern patchouli that is versatile and has a decent development. Lasts long enough too.

Lovely scent. Don't know if it's the elemi but it also feels boozy to me somewhere deep down. Like some sort of new, white rum infused with:
- oolong tea
- anise
- citron
- hibiscus

That's in the open and initial drydown.

A nice sandalwood-patchouli-elemi-pepper combo becoming dominant thereafter.
