Reviews of Love's Baby Soft by Love's

The quintessential perfume for those in their youth, who new not what, perfume was, or what, it was supposed to be. Everyone wore this, in my high school. It was cheap. It was everywhere. It was "safe". No overt sexuality in its flowers. Nothing screamed, slut! If one can find a vintage bottle, then I suggest you experience it. It was a sign of the times. Innocence in a pink-capped bottle. It was so popular, it was one of the most shop-lifted items, of that era (at least in my 'burg). Nothing about it, IMO, resembled infants or babies. It had an added "oomph". Subtle, come-hither accord, mixed with the berry lip glosses of that era, made for some sexual tension in many a car's backseat...

One cannot review this scent as one would a Guerlain or judge it by those standards. As a simple scent, aimed at teen-aged girls of the 1970s, it is quite pleasant, soft and powdery, as others on this site state, but not cheap smelling, acrid or over the top.

One would have wished a not so twee packaging design, as this is perfectly wearable as an after bath or shower splash for either sex. What it smells above all else is "clean."
Fresh and clean and powdery - what could be wrong.

Barbara Herman talks of its fougere heart. The vanilla, musk, heliotrope and syringa give it that lovely mimosa-like lift, the lavender and lilac ground it. Very nice.

Top notes: Syringa, Lemon, Lavender, Rosewood
Heart notes: Heliotrope, Lilac, Rose, Muguet, Orchid, Carnation
Base notes: Vanilla, Benzoin, Musk

Sweet powder Bought this a couple of years ago on a nostalgic whim, and haven't used it up yet (that's a long time for me). This smells like a sweeter, stronger version of Johnson's Baby Powder. Very fresh, sweeeeet powder. The sweetness has a candy edge that prevents me (I am in my mid 30s) from wearing this in public; it might seem a bit absurd. I like it as a bedtime scent; it's not strong enough to keep me awake, and the powder is calming. There is supposed to be some patchouli in here, but I can't find it. Great cologne if it's your thing, but it's definitely not my favorite! Now that the racy ads are a thing of the past, I would feel okay about giving this to a very young girl. Baby Soft has a (fairly) new Jasmine scent that I like a lot better than this; the jasmine is nice with Baby Soft's trademark powderiness. For reference, I live in the deep south, so the heat and humidity amplify all scents, especially sweet ones. Those in cooler areas might more easily get away with wearing this in public.Pros: Cheap, easy to findCons: Hard to wear after a certain age"

Just like fashion, what goes around, comes around!
So, I was thrilled to see 'Love's Baby Soft' back on the shelf! This is one powdery fresh body spray (no, it's really not a cologne or perfume) that takes me back to my senior year of high school (1974- when it first came out)...Nothing but good things happened when I wore it, or it's 'sister' spray 'Love's Fresh Lemon'!
Now, there is a Love's Baby Soft Shower Wash that is out and that is lovely, but I'm still wanting the Love's Fresh Lemon!! Any idea where to find it?

I still have a small bottle for memories sake. I enjoyed this as a very young child and I find the smell comforting. Sometimes I will wear it around the house or spray it on my pillow before going to bed.

I don't know why, but I love Love's Baby Soft. No, wait a second. I do know why. Because it's delightful! Most of the reviewers here seem embarrassed by their admission of liking this one. Yes, it was marketed to young women (really young) in the 1970's and was wildly popular with the jr. high set. But, unlike other inexpensive "drug store" fragrance concoctions, Love's Baby Soft never smelled cheap. That it's still floating around out there is a testament to its universal appeal: talcum powder, babies, sweetness, innocence, spring flowers and light-heartedness. What's wrong with that? Unfortunately we become brainwashed by marketing (especially with perfume) that a scent is only meant for a certain demographic. I say, Balderdash! I'm wearing it right now, and I'm a grown man! Admittedly an adventurous one. If you took this juice and put it in a sleek bottle and put a designer's name on it, I bet it would be a huge seller. So forget about the '70's...tell people when they ask that you had it "custom blended". Or if they say..."Is that Love's Baby Soft?" say, "You can try hard, or you can try soft...soft will get 'em every time."
Curious about the actual note pyramid...does anyone know?
P.S. For a guy, if you can get past the candy pink packaging and juice color; this is one of the most baber-shop (in a great way) frags on the market. Believe it or not!

I have always loved the soft, gentle, feminine allure of love's baby soft. I am very sensitive to a lot of perfumes and I used to wear this in high school and even as a young adult. I would still wear it now and it wouldn't bother me one bit. My husband likes it too.

This is one of my favorite fragrances of all. I've been wearing it since high school and I'm 30 now, still get compliments and asked what I'm wearing. Baby Soft blows Pink Sugar out of the water and is sweet but not nearly as overpowering as PS, plus it's about $30 cheaper. Men love it too.

I love Love's Baby Soft! It reminds me of when I was a pre-teen. I see it at the drugstores and I always have to stop to smell it. I was in the dollar store tonight after work and there it was, a tiny bottle of it. For a dollar - I couldn't resist. I'll probably go back & get a few more bottles & give one to my sister she'll appreciate the nostalgia. It's a very young scent, think cotton candy meets baby powder but it is light, not sickeningly sweet like Aquolina Pink Sugar. This fits best for a pre-teen or perhaps a nostalgic adult.

Love's Baby Soft is fun, simple, pretty and a big bargain. Anyone who doesn't see the beauty in this one has no sense of humor...When I was 10, LBS set me on the path to all my favorite powders that are leagues more sophisticated. LBS is great for what it is.

Simple, basic, and completely bland...I never would have chosen it for myself, even at 13...and, yet, I owned at least 20 bottles, because apparently there was some secret law in the early 1980's that said you had to give your babysitter a bottle of Love's Baby Soft every Christmas. A simple, baby powder fragrance that is suitable for a tween's first scent, but not much else.

Certainly not for anyone over the age of 13, but Love's Baby Soft sure is nice. I admit it. I own a bottle. But only to wear around the house and use as air freshener. Its soft powdery scent is a pleasant trip down memory lane. It really is a shame that it was worn alongside crimped hair, acid washed jeans, and LA gear sneakers, but at the time they were as fashionable as it is. The difference is they went out of style and Baby Soft did not. Good for a nostalgic romp; just don't wear it out of the house. Fortunately, it's price allows you to be so frivolous in its use.

I got a whole pack of mini "love" perfumes from my aunt, who had been a teenage girl during the height of it's popularity, when I was about 12. From the way she fawned over it, I could tell she had been a fan. I wasn't quite so enthused. I think my upbringing ruined me for these - my mother patronized Chanel and Geurlain and I grew up in a fog of No. 5 and Champs-Elysses. "Baby soft" is certainly pleasant enough but even in the seventh grade thought It smelled basically of the baby powder my Dad put in his socks.I still have some of these samples, but I don't often wear them. I use them mostly to freshen up my bathroom - which smells great. :)

I love this fragrance! It is light & airy which is perfect for warm weather. I never wore it as a young girl but after hearing so much hype about it from so many I people decided to go out and buy a bottle. I chose the body mist instead of the body spray and fell in love with Love.

Ugh. I hated this one, probably because it was foisted on me by my truly "wicked" stepmother, and even at the age of 9 or 10 when I received it, it smelled "babyish" to me. I wasn't allowed to pick my own scent, probably because I might choose something with some personality. This is baby powder in a spray bottle, folks, and that's about it. There's no depth, no drydown, nothing. Even kids deserve better.

Okay, first, the other Love versions stank. The original is the best, even though it smells a bit phony like to me. It's soft and dries to a powder, like baby powder! Duh! Wow! I mean, really, I'd just rather go out and purchase the lotion and powder instead! Nothing exciting here. But, good for the little girls and preteens.

As inexpensive and pretty as it is, I see why it used to be so popular among the teenaged girls in the USA: sweet cotton candy with a touch of strawberries and weighless musk. It does not last long at all, but what a sweet half hour it is when one is going to sleep in a sheer veil of Love's Baby Soft!

Whenever I see colognes marketed for 13-20 year old girls, I think about Love's Baby Soft. When I was 16 years old, this scent came out and I searched vigorously till I was able to find a bottle. Like others have remarked, about Love's other scents, a few years later I moved on to "Eau de Love" which was a really great scent as well. Now that Baby Soft is back, it's a little different, but still very nice. Great for the summer or when you want to feel young again. All I know is, the minute I sprayed it on, I was back in high school and memories of high school are always welcome in my mind.

My first cologne! Brings back great memories. Such a nice, powdery girly smell. This goes right along with "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific"!

In junior high I got the 5-scent set, I think I can even remember them--baby soft, lemon, jasmine, gentle must, and rain! Baby soft was definitely the one my sister's and I used the most. Just so comforting, and even now, not having smelt it in years, it comes right back to mind. Ah..

At the tender age of 12, this was my first fragrance purchase. All my own! My girlfriends were given Avon's Sweet Honesty by their sisters, mothers, aunts and what have you...but I never liked the smell of that one. Love's Baby Soft ended up scenting my dresser drawer liners, stationary, and anything else I could 'mark' with 'my scent'! After this one, I graduated to Love's Fresh Lemon and then to Heaven Sent. Each has truly claimed a place within me and I'm instantly transported there again and again by a mere whiff!

Okay, this has got to be the number one or number two nostalgia scent for those of us who attended junior or high school back in the Seventies/early Eighties. Sweet, soft, soothing with a scent somewhere in between baby powder and baby oil; all I have to do is close my eyes and think about how it smells, without even actually smelling it, and those memories just come flooding back! Sadly, it's been reformulated of late and is not as pretty as it used to be; it's a bit sharper now and more baby shampooey than anything else, which is still nice but not quite as gentle as it once was. (On the upside, the "new" Love's Baby Soft spray bottle is easier to wield than I recall the old splash style bottle being. Or was it Love's Fresh Lemon - another one of my very, very nascient fragrant loves, that came in the splash bottle?) Despite the changes, I continue to wear it from time to time, and still like it quite well for what it is - simple and easy, perpetually young and a whole generation's idea of what a certain time of life smelled like.
