Reviews of Nautica Competition (new) by Nautica

Nautica Competition (new) is a reformulation of the better-appreciated original in the blue box and bottle.

For me, NC has always been a great go-to scent for warmer weather. I recall it'd garner compliments, that is while it was discernible (my bottle then and now has not-so-great longevity), with the opening tartness fading away rather quickly and making way for the more subdued spiciness in the heart. And after all THAT, it settles down into a generic unclassy sandalwood and is all but a skin scent by then.

This EdT is a candidate for layered application, twice in a row on top of each other. It seems to operate better that way, but nothing spectacular.

Still, I like the juniper-bergamot opening and can try NC on just for that, although there are a lot of other colognes out there that can give me this and last MUCH longer.

The opening is a synthetic concoction of a citrus-berry opening worthy of an airfreshener. The drydown tries a rather laboratory-style nutmeg. Little further development on my skin, poor silage with limited projection and three hours of longevity. An unrecognisable travesty of the original version, pretty awful.

The only reason I purchased this was because my girlfriend at the time liked it. I think she was just tired of waiting around while I went through the various colognes being offered at the mall...

I have a slight bit left now, and taking a whiff of it, I'm reminded of the dismal smell of this cologne. It's a dark, bitter olfactory assault that ultimately won the honor of making my gym bag smell marginally better. I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviews.

Have to agree with the other reviewers here. Just awful. Axe body sprays are 100 times better than this. What happened? I seemed to recall this juice being a refreshing, citrusy, classically cologney...maybe I'm thinking of the version in the silver flacon?
In any event, I found a huge bottle of this at Marshall's for only 20 bucks. Good thing I was able to smell it first. The top notes are great for literally 30 seconds and then it's just wash it off territory from there. This crap is like one of those "Our version of...so and so". No bargain at any price.

If you enjoy Tommy Hilfiger for Men or Michael Jordan for Men, this one is right up your alley. It's essentially a creamy version of MJ and/or Tommy. It's much closer to Michael Jordan though, almost identical even. The juniper and bergamont opening is a vaguely dirty citrus accord and lasts for about 5 minutes. Soon, the top becomes creamy and faintly spicy with the rosemary, nutmeg heart. As it transitions into the drydown, the creamy nutmeg, citrus blend lingers over a smooth sandalwood base, almost like the creamy sandalwood in The Art of Shaving, but with the rosemary still spicing up the mix. It's very pleasing but not something for anyone over the age of 20. It's a great starter fragrance for any teen and/or pre-teen and it will definitely get anyone wearing it a mass amount of compliments. Sillage is moderate and longevity is anywhere between 4-7 hours give or take. I bought this this for my little cousin (15 years old) for around $25 (2.5 oz) and he loves it, along with all the young females in his life.
On that note, I wore this once and someone asked me if I was wearing Chanel Edition Blanche. I suppose it's the creaminess vibe that would allow for that confusion. Plus, when I wore this back in high school, females regularly insisted that I smelled, dare I say, like "a sexy beast!". My final rating B-

A synthetic cloud of Axe body spray blended with very little attention to detail or standards for natural ingredients, Competition is better left in the dust and was smartly discontinued. It lacks subtlety or pleasant tones to push the synthetic element to the the background. A failure.

Just bought a bottle from Marshall's for $20. After spraying one blast of this orange-musky stuff I feel cheated!

Buy a 'generic sport-fresh' formula from a perfume manufacturer's list of hand-me-down bargain basement synthetic leftovers, package it in a fancy bottle with a fancy name, give it a little marketing spin and there we have it - NAUTICA COMPETITION. Same old crap. Only different bottle. Why else would they target the 18-25 year-old demographic group? There are significantly lower chances of them discovering this for what it truly is - a con job. But as they say: what you don't know won't hurt you.

I didn't like the old version, but didn't mind the new version. Some are critical that it smells synthetic - it certainly smells a bit odd at first. But it has very good lasting power, and keeps one smelling fresh for ages. Which after all is what a sporty sounding scent is supposed to do.

This was a terrible fragrance by Nautica. The blue version is MUCH BETTER than this. It just screams PLAIN! Nothing else. Very boring I would not recommend to even a teenager.

Some might think this is like other sporty fragrances; and to a degree it is. But it is worse than most, being ultra-synthetic and downright unpleasant and annoying. My negative review makes for the seventh in a row!

why not spend $8 on a cool-looking travel spray of Nautica Competition? Well, that's what I asked myself when I saw it at the local Ross cheapo discount store. It is a neat looking bullet-style sprayer. Well, I'm seriously considering spraying the contents out and reusing it as a neat looking sprayer. Otherwise I just bought an $8 ornament for my mini collection. This is your run-of-the-mill fresh (bergamot/citrus) that is clearly and unmistakably uber-synthetic. It is nearly identical to Jaguar Performance - another super winner - except that Jaguar has more depth. There is a metallic streak to this that is unpleasant. Totally linear. I don't notice any 'nutmeg' or other published notes emerge. It's just 'Glade fresh' and done. I'm many years past the target age for this, but regardless as someone who more Polo throughout their 20s, I can't imagine anyone truly appreciating this.

I received this cologne years ago to replace my original (blue) bottle, of which I throughly enjoyed. Not this one. Smells cheap and generic, definately "sporty" but I'd use this one to freshen my gym socks before anything else. I tried putting up with it for a matter of months before realizing that life is just too short to spend on colognes that don't smell good. Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit of money on something that isn't quite as obnoxious as this. If you don't believe me, contact me and I'll give you my bottle, since I can't even give it away to my friends here.

Yuck. Smells like anything else that's deemed sporty. A lot like Lacoste Essential mixtured with the opening of Truefit & Hill 1805 Cologne. Well, yes it's clean and simple but not too engaging if that's what you're looking for.

I can't find anything at all good about this. It's just awful.. imagine an axe filled locker room - and you have this. To me, it smells like cheap cologne smell that I would still be disappointed in if it came out of a vending machine. Generic as can be!

This ones a no-go for me. I had T for Him by T.Hilfiger about a year ago...smelled peppery and strong, a hand me down cologne from one of my buddies. Whaddya'know....as soon as I sprayed Nautica Competition on the back of my wrist the initial top notes were nice then the drydown smells JUST LIKE T for Him!!! Yea, it's clean but it's too "Peppery" and it's scent is inclined to give a migraine IMHO. Too strong for a "Clean smelling" scent. The other Nautica's are better.

Nautica Competition is another one of the myriad synthetic bergamot / green scents that have overwhelmed the ranks of new offerings ever since Eternity. It is fresh but its freshness is not only ordinary, it is very synthetic–synthetic to the extreme–almost as synthetic as Eternity. The accords are pleasant enough and last acceptably long. I could see this as a wearable fragrance for a young person who doesn't mind the synthetic tang to it.

Like everyone else says, a good simple clean scent for daytime wear.

Nautica Competition is the most surprising frangrance in my collection. Surprising because it is so inexpensive, but well balanced. I bought it initially as a travel or extra fragrance when I didn't want to use my more unique (read expensive) ones, but now find that I end up choosing it fairly often. I think the bergamot topnote and the sandalwood basenote are classic and simple, and there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

I recommend this as a good casual fragrance. Go easy when applying (especially if you're going to be indoors) as this scent will give the wearer and those around you a mild headache.

I got this cologne as a gift. Good thing I did, because I wouldn't pay for this cologne. Very sporty, citrus maybe sweet lime? smell. There isn't anything about this cologne I dislike. It has given me a headache or two before, though. Duration is ok, 5-6 hours for me.

I'm really into this one...one of my best "fresh scents" that I use and won't worry that it loses steam an hour later. Got this for a steal at my local designer outlet store. Fresh, clean, balanced, long lasting, good for all occasions. A solid choice!
