Reviews of Oud Satin Mood Extrait de Parfum by Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Before we get lost in chatter about aromatic yield, performance, cocks and decks... let's start with one thing: FOR ME it's a feminine perfume, there's no escape, and in fact to be honest it's the entire MFK line that wavers between feminine and the metrosexual unisex without having a real masculine scent inside. Having made the necessary assumptions, we can say that it is a VERY beautiful perfume, indeed. Light years away from the more common pink-ouds, in OSME you can barely smell the oud on the base (we are talking about negligible quantities in my opinion), but if you want to look for it. In essence, the aromatic yield is centered on a very beautiful vanilla rose with a hint of violet that gives it that something extra, making your mouth water. It really has a silky smell, that's what it reminds you of because it's smooth and soft on the nose, never aggressive or edgy. The vanilla is that of FK, delicious and gourmand but absolutely not cloying (and to say so myself...). Compared to the EdP version I prefer this one because it is less sweet and more floral. I rarely use it because it doesn't feel good on me, even though I like it a lot. Is it worth what it costs? no, definitely not! but where there is taste there is no loss and so amen...!

The Extrait version of this fragrance is a significant improvement over the EDP. While I appreciated the original, I found the midsection to be a bit too rough and jarring due to the clash between the rose and oud notes. However, the Extrait version addresses this issue and delivers a smoother and more refined experience throughout the entire scent duration. The fragrance sits a bit closer to the skin compared to the EDP, but it still boasts excellent performance. While I'm still undecided if the price increase is worth it for a more polished version of the original, I can confidently say that this is an exceptional fragrance that deserves a sniff.

A top favorite of mine. The best of MFK's Oud ... Mood series of fragrances. Though very similar in profile and performance to the EDP, the addition of spicy cinnamon in the opening and the rounder rose/oud combo in this make it a bit richer and more balanced. The rose is definitely present but I find it to come across less floral than the EDP, despite the addition of a second type of rose in this one. A stunning scent that lasts for days and has wonderful sillage. Definitely worth trying if you like creamy and vanillic rose/oud combinations.

You wake up in a strange bed, realise he hasn't washed his sheets for 2 months, but you don't care because his warm and smells delicious.

When I first got this I thought it was incredible, especially in the cold winter air. The performance of this is off the charts, lasting months on clothing and up to 2 days on skin. However, the more I wear this the more it became cloying on me, there was an off note I couldn't put my finger on... it began to smell like an alien substance and something created in a lab..... this became even more apparent after I dabbled into oud oils and attars. At nearly £300 for 75 ml it seems quite overpriced. 6/10

Rose, white medicinal oud. Smells of great quality to me. The whole thing has a softened feel from that background vanilla. That is all that really needs to be said about the scent profile. Projection and longevity are large. Leans feminine. The longer I wear it, the longer it seems to fit fine as a unisex, and the more I feel like I can pull it off... but, I think that is just me becoming acclimatized. I'm pretty sure this still reads as feminine to anyone who smells it.

Another masterpiece from Monsieur Francis. This is a different fragrance to the EDP and the notes are slightly different. This is the best of the "OUD/Mood" range by far. It leans towards the feminine side which, perhaps because of the additional rose, but it still works well on a man, maybe it can be layered with a natural oud oil to make it more masculine. Definitely full-bottle worthy.

Rose, rose, and more rose. That's all I get throughout the whole scent's life and that's ok. I seem to only wear this one particularly to church. It works on me and it smells great.

Edit: I layered this today with Tom Ford's Tobacco Oud Intense and it was magic. Still is. Still projecting. Satin tends to be a bit linear so I've found TF gives it something around the edges.
