The original 1934 RUMEUR must have been a stunner with vanilla, tobacco, leather, civet, peach, plum, cyclamen, geranium, vetiver, patchouli amber, nutmeg cardamon, clove, cistus.

The new scent with the same name is awful. Another of those boring dry chypres without any depth or interest. What can you do with magnolia, muguet, white rose and jasmine, except let them shine as white florals. No so here. There is almost no scent in this - yet another knock off watery dull insult to the nose.

Try to find the original and avoid this travesty - shame on them to use the name over again. Can't someone provide them with a dictionary??

I concur with Meg2005 from 5 years ago that it is similar to SJP's Lovely, only better, as she also points out. This is an unusual and reasonably lively combination of florals, with the magnolia and lily of the valley and maybe orange (as far as I can tell) providing a slightly and almost pleasantly musty smell. This mustiness reminds me of an uncle and aunt's house from my childhood. Was it the somewhat comforting smell of the wicker furniture my aunt liked to collect? Probably it was a combination of things. You know how each house/household seems to have its own peculiar smell?

A limited knowledge of a half dozen or so Lanvin scents has led me to believe that the quality of this house's offerings is a bit uneven, but then there are more than 40 that I haven't smelt yet!

I own this.
It was a bit strong at first but gets lots of compliments.
Want to know something stupid? Yea? Well, I have good luck everytime I wear it. Really!! So if it smells like a skunk, whatever! :))))

ps I can't stand the rose version and it does not get compliments or brings me luck

I must say I am a bit surprised by the amount of negative reviews this one has had. I have to confess I am on my second bottle now and I just love it. Even my husband said it smelled lovely and believe me he has no more interest in perfume than I have in paints and glues. To a certain extent, this perfume reminds me of Arpege and Caleche even though Rumeur is different. I also like the name (gossip, background noise) and I think it really befits this perfume: slightly dark and secretive. The lasting power is great and the price is good too. What more does a girl need?

I haven't tested this on my skin...after my experience with a testing strip, I'm slightly afraid to try...

Opening notes were very medicinal, another member said it smelled like acetone, and I definitely got that. Maybe acetone with a touch of cinnamon. Shortly thereafter I could detect white floral notes and lots of musk...it started to remind me of a not-so-pleasant version of Narciso Rodriguez. I say not-so-pleasant because to my nose, there was an underlying fecal (indole, maybe) note that really distracted me.

This perfume confuses me...I start to like it, then I turn away in disgust. I smell it again, smile, and then a few minutes later wrinkle my nose. Definitely not going to purchase this one.

To be fair, I am not a fan of florals with very few exceptions. This was a steal I found at a discount store for next to nothing. What I have here, is too many strong floral notes struggling for power, to my dismay, they are all winning, I am losing. This fragrance wears me, not the other way around. The magnolia and jasmine notes are strong and cloying to me and gave me an instant headache. Understanding fully that somewhere in there there is musk and patchouli, I popped 2 painkillers and dared to wait for this floral battlefield to find a peaceful solution and drydown to a musky floral I thought I could tolerate. No such luck. There was no change or transformation, and I did give it the better part of a day. For those who love this, the lasting power and sillage must be orgasmic. I love loud, if not sometimes brash fragrances, I care not if my scent enters a room before I do if I love it. Sadly, this was was so "perfumey", so reminiscent of cloying florals of old, even I was turned off. The bottle is minimalistic and attractive but this counts for nothing in my assessment of a scent. I could not wear this if it was the only remaining scent on earth. Thank goodness I did not spend very much on this so I don't feel violated, I feel more like I walked out of the cinema after paying to watch an unenjoyable film.

My nose is getting a whole lot of lily of the valley(aka muguet a note often used now in haircare and household products)and this EDP is almost a (twin?)sister to Ralph Lauren's LaurenEDT(which explains the vintage in a good way reviews).I like the new Rumeur ,it is very fresh and clean for humid work days this summer.

Ignore the orange blossom for it retires straight to the background almost from the get-go, leaving a softly indolic floral musk. Perhaps it is this lack of notable topnote sparklers that offers an impression of ‘heaviness' for the scent itself wears lightly with a tenacity that belies its somewhat thin frame. I do not know how this modern update compares to the 1932 original but I feel Kurkdjian has done well enough to retain RUMEUR's distinctively French heritage, complete with a vintage vibe but not quite the same classical chypre structure. Nevertheless, fans of discreet style of perfumes should find it enjoyable. Notes: magnolia, orange blossom, lily-of-the-valley, white rose, jasmine sambac, seringa, patchouli, musks, ambroxan.

Incredibly, loud, brash, overwhelming opening that dries down into a retro feel. It is lovely in the drydown, but, I'm not sure I would want to wait that out.

A fruity white floral… Fortunately for my preferences, the fruity part takes a back seat in Rumeur – the fruit present themselves lightly and make way for the dominant white florals. But I'm not quite sure that understand the florals: Magnolia, rose, jasmine are all present to my nose, but I can't tell how I am really responding to them: It's a competent floral accord, but it seems characterless except for a touch of too much heaviness. It's unquestionably pleasant accord in a generic sort of way, it's just directionless, but that would be OK if there was more happening anyplace else in the fragrance… There isn't… The drydown is just there filling a void with generic odor. This fragrance is not as bad as I'm making it sound, but I don't know how to to make it sound any better.

The initial blast and first 10 minutes were so awful I didn't know if I could make it through. It smells like a generic "Floral Bouquet" air freshener from the dollar store. Finally, 20 minutes in, some rose arrives, still accompanied by the synthetic notes from the top. After an hour, piercing rose/white musk becomes tolerable, but if I want a plastic rose, I'll go for Madame by Lancetti.

a very sophisticated fragrance. It opens with boozy, leathery fruits, a touch of flowers and voluptuous base notes, dries down with a peppery musk accord.on my skin it develops into a soft, calming fragrance....I got many compliments while wearing it. I would recommend it if you are feeling a bit moody ...or it's raining.don't know why exactly ...

this is my current favorite and the scent that helped me drop my fear of musk. it does start out a little obnoxious, but quickly turns into a quirky fun smell. mostly, the musk, rose and patchouli run the show. the rose note is definitely not your standard red rose. anytime i wear this, it leads me to feel like a happy hippie with flowers in my hair and sunlight on my shoulders.

The one perfume from Lanvin that I can honestly say is not a favorite is Rumeur. The scent feels very disbalanced and uncertain. On my skin it is very uneasy, the notes clash together and I can't detect any of the notes in this fragrance. It is heavy and plain. IMO Rumeur is not horrible, but it is definately not for me. I absoutely adore and admire Eclat D'Arpege from Lanvin, but I can't say the same for Rumeur.

This perfume is heavy and pungent! I was very disappointed with the smell because I LOVE Oxygene and Eclat D'Arpege, both Lanvin perfumes, but Rumeur was a big let-down. I gave it a fair chance and left it on my skin for as long as I could stand, the smell never softened or mellowed and it smelled exactly the same an hour or so later as when I first sprayed it on. In the end I couldn't wait to wash it off and even then I couldn't get rid of the smell entirely. This is the kind of perfume that I would find really objectionable in an office kind of situation where you have no chance of escaping from the smell! I had ordered a bottle of this over the internet without having smelled it first because the price was great and because I do love Oxygene and Eclat D'Arpege, but I'm going to be returning it so that I can exchange it for a perfume that doesn't make me recoil in horror! The only good thing about this perfume, in my opinion, is that it is incredibly long-lasting so for someone who does find it appealing that would be a good thing, although for people who can't stand it that would be very bad! Personally, I think the parfumier who created Rumeur should be ashamed of himself!!

I don't get any dirty socks I must say! This smells very much like a "summer" version of NR for her. Or possibly some other "remix". Added fruit and floral notes. I agree it does scream at first but this seems to settle after 30 mins or so. Very nice and very potent but not terribly original. Why do so many scent houses like to copy each others "big hitters"? I think it's time for a huge shake up in the perfume industry. Am I the only one bored with all the sythetic crap and variation after variation? What next? Opium Monday? Very Irresitible Friday? Kouros Dental appointment? Enough already!

Dirty, sour, cheesy socks + nail remover + cyanoacrylate in Super Glue. "Screaming", synthetical. Run-a-mile type of scent.

A clean, crisp white floral, and I agree with the reviewers who found it rather retro, in feeling - in the best possible sense, for me, anyway. I do see the resemblance to SJP's Lovely, which I like very much, but this one is more effervescent, more complex, and at the same time, rounder and easier to wear. I detect no musk, hardly any woods, and mercifully, no headspace technology aspect whatever, either. It's a modern interpretation of the great and wonderful Fleurs de Rocaille, and a very thoughtful, inspired one at that. Not too familiar with Francis Kurkdjian's work, but on the strength of Rumeur, he has just acquired a new fan.

I looked up the notes in Ozmos and found it to be a floral woody musk. I really like this perfume for work in the spring. It's strong without being too overpowering and it is a clean smell so it doesn't offend anyone. I get white flowers and fruit with it so I give it a thumbs up

The new Rumeur was composed by Francis Kurkdjian, who contributed to Gaultier's Le Male and Narciso Rodriguez For Her. Rumeur is a very floral, fruity, dry chypre. I've found Kurkdjian's other scents easier to pull off in a variety of settings, but Rumeur is very attire and occasion specific.Upon first spraying, I noted pear and magnolia. Others have said the sillage is poor, however I've found it to be quite potent, even after bathing. In short, a little goes a long way. It's a welcome departure from many of the movie star florals and bubble gums that have flooded the market recently.Rumeur does tend to give me a bit of a nauseous feeling after a while. It entices a strange hunger that turns into a headache. I've experienced this with some other modern chypres. I recommend obtaining a vial before purchasing this for yourself.

I tested this fragrance on my skin and was at first very delighted by the light top notes. Very fresh floral bouquet. As the fragrance deepened on my skin, it became stronger. I disagree that it is anything close to Narciso Rodriguez (which leaves me with a headache and the acrid smell on my skin) It is much more of a full floral - still too strong for me. The flowers never softened into a musk and the smell was not warm enough on drydown. Just a loud explosion of flowers. Not sexy. reminds me of office perfume for the older set.
