Saat Safa is a potent mash-up of the mossy, pungent rose chypres of the eighties, such as Diva (Ungaro) and Knowing (Estée Lauder), and the syrupy exoticism of rose and sandalwood attars from India and the Middle East. In short, for a little roll on thingy, it is bloody fantastic. The opening roils with a fresh green rose bracketed by antiseptic saffron, placed there to drain your sinuses and clear a path through the tangled undergrowth. The pungent green moss notes and the burning resins give the scent an old-school ‘perfumey’ vibe, an impression that grows stronger when the spicy carnation and ylang notes creep in.

Although not as spicy as Opium (Yves Saint Laurent) or Coco (Chanel), a bridge of cinnamon and cloves connects the dots between these ruby-rich floral ambers and the mossy bitterness of Mitsouko (Guerlain) and Knowing. The sour smokiness of the ‘oudy’ base ushers in a taste of the East. And when all the notes mesh together, one hardly knows whether to be aroused or intimidated. Maybe both. Although the base slouches into a soapy slop, due to far too heavy a hand with laundry musks, the first part of the scent is striking enough to warrant a place in the wardrobe of any spicy floral-amber or chypre lover. Amazing stuff and possessed of a quality that belies its low price.

I like Saat Safa ("Hour Of Clarity")very much, but would describe it as an Eastern take on very "safe", traditional aromatic men's fragrances, such as Marks & Spencer Woodspice and Aramis 900; ie. very pleasant, but the type of fragrance I always associate with a more mature, very traditional gentleman, who likes to smell nice, but doesn't want a perfume to make him stand out in any way.

Saat Safa opens with a mixture of rose and subtle citrus against a green and oud background: after wearing for about an hour, it sweetens, and the citrus and rose disappear, leaving herbal and aromatic green notes and oud.

Very pleasant, but very traditional, safe and aromatic.

When first applied, thoughts were, similar to Ex Idolo 33. Close, but no Cigar!

It lacks the balance, 3 dimensionality and tannin of the Thirty-Three.

Notice the Rose, something citric and vaguely medicinal iodinic and oud.

As others have said before, a pleasant scent and at a very pleasant price.

Not bad stuff at all. Not earth-shaking, but for $3.99 for a 6ml bottle of oil I am quite pleased with it.

Description © by Al-Rashad Books: "Saat Safa has a Sophisticated Woody Fragrance with Oudh, Jasmine, musk, citrus, moss,Amber and Moss. Sweet and smokey. For men and women."

I get a not-overly-sweet amber, a touch of citrus, and some nice oud/musk peeking out from the background. I was non-plussed at first, but I finally gave it a good wearing and came back here to add a star.
