This is not a Pipe
Demeter Fragrance Library (1998)

It opens with a strong pipe tobacco smell, with a cherry sweetness that lingers until the drydown, also with a slight animalic twist (I've recently tried TSVGA's Pipe and I think the tobacco is recreated similarly in both, except TSVGA does not have that cherry sweetness). After this stage, a woody smell that was in the background until now comes forward and the fragrance at this stage evokes a wooden box in which tobacco is stored. If you only want to have the smell of pipe tobacco, I suggest not to use this fragrance on your clothes, because on the clothes, it gives a leathery scent in the drydown which is not so similar to tobacco; But on the skin, due to the shorter life of the fragrance, that leathery drydown does not have much time to develop. Overall, This is a warm, sweet and tobacco-like scent, it can be said to be a fairly close recreation of pipe tobacco, and unlike most of Demeter's works, which are artificial or far from reality, this one is well executed.

A pretty straight-forward and realistic pipe tobacco. Thought not the most complex undertaking, fans of the genre should certainly give it a try.

Difficult not to like this one if you are a tobacco enthusiast. A one not samba of mildly sweet pipe tobacco straight out of the pouch. Lasts for a few hours exactly as expected. Light 'em up!

Demeter is essentially a soliflore house that doesn't get enough credit for its adventurous and clever accord creations.

This Is Not a Pipe is a stunningly realistic evocation of its source material, more of an accord than a full-bodied perfume (though, in that respect, it's hardly different than most niche): an unsmoked tin of pipe tobacco, lightly sweetened with a burnt sugar undertone but decidedly more woody than gourmand.

This Magritte-themed composition is a pipe fragrance indeed. Initially very chemical, it turns out to be pleasant, soft and with a fruity flavour that blends in surprisingly seamlessly and is not overly intrusive.

The tobacco is smooth, with touches of dark Virginia and not harsh at all - no Perique or Latakia can be traced in this blend.

There is not much development to be found here. The sillage is moderate, the projection excellent and the longevity seven hours on my skin.

Nice fragrance. It really is a good representation of what it tries to represent. The smell is quite linear but that's not a bad thing in this case. You can use this for layering to create Tobacco Vanille!
