Philtre by Hiram Green
I've worn Philtre twice now. The first time I just used a tiny spray and the opening was clove, clove, clove, and it took two hours for it to settle into something I'd call carnation. It lasted from the time I applied it, about 4 p.m., and was still going strong at 11 pm bedtime. Today I am doing a hand to hand comparison with DSH Oeillets Rouges. The opening of Philtre after a full spray was still clove, but I also smelled the honey note he used in Slowdive. About two hours later, a bit of green creeps in, not much, and I smell a hint of jasmine and vanilla. Compared to Oeillets Rouges, Philtre is stronger, deeper somehow, and a tiny bit sweeter. There are more greens in Oeillets Rouges and it smells more like a fresh flower. Philtre smells more like a concentration of a flower.I am not very good at writing reviews, sorry. If you love carnations of the clove pink variety, you will like Philtre.
Cuoium by Orto Parisi
I'm female and I like and wear Cuoium. Yes, it's dark, but there's not too much isobutyl quinoline, a common failing for me when I am trying leathers because I don't like them too brutal. After an initial blast it calms and in contrast to my experience with Knize Ten, doesn't overwhelm me. It layers nicely with roses to make a rose with an edge.ADVERTISEMENT
Indian Study by Miller et Bertaux
It's what it says on the box--Santal. I don't get any cumin or curry. There is a warmth to it that may be the masala. It's not a sweet fragrance, but it's not sharp either, and it captures the facet of creaminess that sandalwood can have. Projection is very low. I like it, but I pretty much like all sandalwoods that don't have a barbershop aspect. I will say that the bottle comes off looking cheap. It's very generic and the label looks like something I could make on a home computer. I've gotten decants from splitters here on Basenotes with better bottles and labels. Thumbs up on the fragrance, thumbs down on the presentation.Crimson Rocks by Amouage
It opens with cinnamon baby powder, and then notes of honey and rose join in. I don't get the sensation of anything dry or rocky, and it is just too powdery for me.Il Libro Degli Agrumi : Boccioli di Limone by Monotheme
This is a lovely tart lemon fragrance that reminds me strongly of a lemon Life Saver candy. It's linear and also quite fleeting for an eau de toilette, but at $48 for 100ml, you can reapply frequently. The benchmark lemon fragrance for me in Profumum Aqua Viva, and for me Boccioli di Limone falls short, hence the neutral rating.Luci Ed Ombre by Masque
As a jasmine/tuberose/incense/spice lover, I thought this fragrance would become a "must have" immediately. I am so glad I did not blind-buy it from the notes! On me, it opens with the smell of coconut, to which jasmine is added after a minute or so. Then, the tuberose chimes in, but here it smells overwhelmingly of rubber bands. Although the house calls this a unisex scent, I think it skews feminine. Sillage is minimal and longevity is 4-5 hours. On someone else, this might be ravishing, as the quality of the ingredients appears to be good, but on me it just doesn't work.
