I love the 1881 line, although there really isn’t anything in common from one to the next, they are all very different from each other. This one I think is the most different which is pretty hard to say, because Bella Notte, and Signature were both very unique.
This one has a lot going on. The initial blast on skin smells like lemon pledge to me.. not in a bad way either, but simple. That initial blast is gone in 20 seconds. It quickly gets more woody with a little pepper, then it changes again and starts to smell kind of funky, and also kind of medicinal. I can’t help but notice a fecal smell. For me, sometimes the combination of jasmine and patchouli can give this vibe, and I noticed that these are both notes in this scent. There’s this menthol feel overall, but I really don’t get mint. To me, mint has a sweet smell and I don’t get that here, but I do get something that is cool, green, and herbal, that lingers about, while it dries down.
It doesn’t project very much in my opinion, but when it does, I believe it smells better in the air than it does up close. It kind of smells a little funky up close at certain points, but in the air.. I mostly get wafts of patchouli.. with a subtil greenness.
Although this fragrance takes me on a bit of a journey, it doesn’t last very long. The whole journey is in the first 5 minutes of the fragrance, after that it’s pretty boring. This is not a very safe blind buy, but it’s usually around $20-$30 bucks if you can even find it, which is a cheap buy. (in today’s world of fragrance anyhow) I do think that men 50+ would probably like this the most. It’s also very light, and probably most suitable for an office setting

1881 Riviera gives me an odd kind of blueberry yoghurt scent with an earthy mustiness underneath, the latter of which is more evident as it dries down. I sort of like it, but can't really get excited about it, and after a few years of owning it, decided to gift it away.
Great sprayer. Below average performance on my skin.

I was expecting to see opoponax in the list of ingredients although it isn't very strong. Instead it's the jasmine and bergamot that present a rapeseed flower scent that might initially be off-putting to some.
I wish there was more of the original in this but sadly there isn't. So why the thumbs up? Well because it smells different, and perhaps signature scent worthy for some.
There is a vintage Eternity vibe going on that's not half bad.
