Latest Reviews of Écusson
It seems the recent reviews of the vintage Ecusson by Jean d'Albret are under another listing for remakes by "Long Lost Perfumes". It also says, for the "Long Lost Perfumes" version, that the original date of creation was 1572... So that whole category needs some editing!
I am reviewing a bottle of vintage Jean d'Albret Ecusson in the "Eau de Cologne Parfumée" format. All I can say is that it is such a wildly soapy aldehyde that it made my teeth hurt. In existing reviews, it appears that the evolution from soap to a more nuanced chypre is mostly associated with the Parfum format.
In the "Eau de Cologne Parfumée," as the soap dissipates, the distinctness of the scent is also dissipating; it is almost too faint to smell now.
If you are very into vintage chypres that start with a faceful of soap, I would look for the Parfum. But I really cannot recommend the Eau de Cologne Parfumée...
