Acqua dell’Elba is an Italian brand of Mediterranean fragrances, best known for its iconic “Classica Uomo,” introduced in 2001. The house draws inspiration from the Elba island’s wild vegetation, the crystal-clear mediterranean marine notes and the timeless charm of coastal life, luxurious yacht sails, sunlit coves, sea breeze and the natural elegance of the Tuscan archipelago. Very reminiscent of Acqua degli Dei Blu (2019, a "blue" aromatic aquatic italian fragrance issued in 2019 by a little southern perfume italian brand) Acqua dell'Elba Arcipelago Uomo is a spicy-floral, woody aromatic accord for men, based on the spicy notes of sage, pepper and rosemary, on the central floral notes of lily of the valley and jasmine (in particular the first of the formers, vaguely reminiscent of the 1992 Joop Nightflight's juicy intense floracy) and the woody-foresty notes of Mediterranean scrub wood, cedarwood and cypress. A Mediterranean sea-mountain accord in which the deep spirit of the sea intertwines with the aromatic aura of the lush Mediterranean forests, giving life to a fragrance that is strong and charismatic yet modern, elegant, intimate and romantic. According to the brand's description, it evokes a safe haven between rocky shores and the sea depths. Arcipelago Uomo opens with fresh, aromatic notes of sage, rosemary and a touch of pepper, suggesting a cool gust of wind from Mediterranean coastline. Gradually, a soft floral heart of jasmine and lily of the valley emerges, adding a delicate, breezy sweetness. Finally, the scent settles into a warm, virile woody-slightly ambery base with cedar, cypress and shrubs from the Mediterranean maquis, giving it a grounded, slightly earthy woodiness. The floral part is truly remarkable, luxurious and intensely citrusy/spicy with elements of sweetness. In the final part, I particularly perceive a combination of soapy cedarwood and white musk that gives it a soapy, fresh, balsamic and exotic aura at the same time. The vetiver adds a light earthy dryness and the musk gives a soft, salty-skin effect. Overall, the ending is elegant, calm, almost meditative, dry-woody and subtly marine, like warm driftwood touched by sea breeze. Another fragrance that reflects the Mediterranean dolce vita between the sea and rocky outcrops overlooking the sea, romantic dinners facing the luminescent sea, mice whispering of life on the boats of the wealthy people and in the air the balsamic scents of cypress, maritime pine and aromatic herbs blended with the sea breeze. Performances are average on my skin.
