It’s not quite the case that a new release from Rogue signals an immediate blind buy for me. However, if you’re used to the brand and what Manuel Cross likes to deliver, you can get a good idea of what to expect from the notes as published. And so the decision was made that if I miss out on this, I might regret it… so the blind buy was completed. Again, a shout-out to the excellent Slickboys website, a UK stockist of Rogue. Why would I miss out? Plausibly, the Rogue lines sell out rapidly and Slickboys constantly have out-of-stock status for various scents; thankfully they also have an “update me by email when in stock” facility.

It's now the season when something like Bonded can come into its own. Initial testing on paper revealed an immediate bourbon accord, very subtly done and referencing some woody ageing. This was accompanied by the slightest smokiness from an almost-not-there oud note. On day two, the strip morphed into Fougere territory with Rogue’s signature oakmoss to the fore. On day three, the strip moved into full gentleman’s club mode with a dry tobacco finale. On skin, this same transition occurs, but much more rapidly. This is not a pervasive scent, more of a strong presence. The comparison to Polo Green is well made and one made across the internet.

Now, spraying the strip in the first place added a little Bonded to that day’s scent, Czech & Speake’s Oxford & Cambridge EDP, to my forearm. That forearm smelled glorious for the rest of the day, and I wondered whether the opportunity to build in a bit of lavender had been lost. But on reflection, I don’t think so; the Rogue web site suggests that “[Bonded] came together slowly, over months, each trial chasing that razor’s edge between richness and restraint.” This again is a highly plausible story: one can imagine, allowing the assumption that we’re working with the stated four components only, adding or subtracting each of them to achieve the right balance. It’s possible that other combinations that didn’t quite make it would also have been popular; perhaps one with more present oud, who knows… take your pick.

Simply another triumph from one of the few houses worth paying attention to.

I had yet to sample anything bottle worthy with 2025 already half way gone until Rogue Bonded arrived a couple of days ago.

Simply put, this is a boozy / tobacco for men. No sugar cookies or syrupy ambers are to be found here. On the flip side, Bonded isn’t a completely rigid or austere take on tobacco either.

This one does a great job of splitting the difference between those two worlds and instead has a welcome balance that definitely leans masculine.

Rogue is known for their use of Oakmoss and this one delivers there as well. After about an hour, I was pleasantly surprised with the mid and dry down as Bonded referred vintage Polo Green!

Bonded is not a sillage beast as it calms way down after 30 minutes. Longevity is average.

A welcome addition to my cologne cabinet, 4 stars!
