Described by the house as a 'challenging' perfume:
Rites of the dead, an imposing envelope of bleakness. Feasting fungi and wilted roses nestle atop charred pineboards and a base of heavy resins and incense.
Funerie fragrance notes
- Morel mushroom, decayed rose, leather, tobacco, smoke, pineboard, incense, sweet myrrh, blood cedar, dried needles, rotting wood (oud)

Stunning creation. Even better on the skin than on the blotter, as my skin pushes up the Oud even more. A perfume called death. A perfume about decomposing matter. The Rose is withered but provides a mysterious and dark sensuality. Organic, dead, dark, medieval, old-world smell. I have a fascination with Dracula (Stoker's version) and many times would try to find perfumes that in my mind would fit his character. This one seems a well fit. This, and Iris Silver Mist. Very unique creation. I can see a parallel with January's Scent Burvuvu, but this one is much darker. Smells of foliage, mushrooms, yeast, fermented/rotting wood, oily smoked leather, and withered roses. To me, it's gorgeous, but I can see this coming off as challenging for most people. Definitely sample beforehand, no blind buy whatsoever.
Review of the original formula, yellow juice. The new one differs greatly, unfortunately.

Sampling Pineward Perfumes Funerie, a 2022 release that is a resinous, woody, and rosy mix. Rose, leather, tobacco, smoke, incense, myrrh are all in the mix per the note breakdown, and it definitely has that well-blended, well-rounded feel wherein most notes do not overshadow others, the exception for me being the rose, which I tend to smell prominently.
It immediately smells to me like something midway between D.S. Durga’s Amber Kiso and (from their discontinued HYLNDS collection) Bitter Rose, Broken Spear. So, smoky, leathery, amber meets a metallic, spicy rose, minus the metal, in the case of Funerie.
The performance is quite strong and the blend is compounded at 31%, essentially an extrait de parfum. This smells like it has a good amount of natural materials, as well—a common trait of this house.
The pricing for Funerie is similar to most of the line, at $205/135/80 for 57/37/17ml, reasonable for how rich and dense the juice is, and fortunately, samples are available, both individually and as part of sets (in general).
I’d certainly recommend that others check out Funerie in particular and Pineward generally, especially for the cool weather, as it’s currently winter in my neck of the woods.

I find Funerie being the most daring and provocative scent from Pineward lineup.
It opens up with a weird, mold-like Morel mushroom note mixed with mold and funky rose. It dries down to black, strong leather and that's basically what this fragrance is all about. There are some other nuances like smoke, tobacco but definitely it's leather based and leather centric. There is some rose note detectable in here, but as it says in the description, it is a rotten, decayed rose. The scent itself is very organic.
Longevity is over 10 hours, sillage is over moderate.
IMO it's an unique gem. Unwearable, yes, but still a gem.
