Jovan Musk for Women
Jōvan (1972)

This is something I've neglected to try until recently.

It's nice, but a different sort of musk than is common these days, you can feel that it's constructed with more substantial constituents. It is clean, but it also has a suggestive quality about it. As it opens, it's almost aldehydlic (I know it doesn't have aldehydes guys, don't get me wrong), it has a similar *pitch* (some instruments have a similar pitch, but sound different, that's how I think of scent too). The musk is so crisp.

It settles into your skin seamlessly...yet, isn't "your skin but better". This actually smells like you deliberately applied a fragrance, which is refreshing when contrasted with today's market. It's softly powdered, subtly floral, and still *clean*.
All said, this is a better option than many things on the market that cost more. As always though, musk is notoriously subjective and these are just my most humble opinions.

My mom wore this when I was a toddler (I am 54). I loved how it smelled on her. I couldn’t resist buying a bottle for myself. This is really a great smelling perfume for the price. I like it a lot. Wearing it repeatedly, I am struck with how long it lasts. I am still smelling it at least 12 hours after application. Soft feminine, a fluffy powdery musk.

Soft, clean, a bit sweet, a little bit floral. To me, this just smells like the Seventies, in a good way.

This is the first musk perfume I ever bought, the first I wore, the first I even knew about. I still love it.

Nice sweet, warm, "wrap up in a sweater sit down with a good book"scent. I am not generally a musk fan, and have to say I appreciate it much more in the dry-down. May try White Musk if I find a bottle somewhere cheap.

Why haven't I worn this before!!! This is one amazing musk. I bought an old bottle from the 70s and POW. I never wore it back then. I layered it with a good ylang ylang and it does resemble #5 I want to try the oil so I just ordered some from ebay. This scent makes me happy. I know for sure this is not a synthetic musk, but what musk did they use? beaver? civet? anyone know?

I bought this blind on a quest for an everyday musk I enjoy and find wearable, being unable to tolerate Body Shop White Musk because it has strong associations with a particular person for me. I have the Musk Oil EDT version, which apparently lacks the loud top notes present in the mens' and womens' EDCs. The opening blast is cheap alcohol over something sickly, but it fades fast into musk; it's that particular type of musk that has a distinct soapy edge about it, which alas is not wat I was hoping for. Essentially this is a bog standard "laundry" musk, and on myself I find it synthetic and pretty bland. Prada Amber Pour Homme is a nicer and slightly more detailed take on the genre.
