The perfumer says:

Carnation is one of my favorite flowers, given its so characteristic shape  and its incredibly delicate and mildy spicy smell. In this soliflore creation I present an ode to Carnation (L'œillet in French) amplified by the magestic properties of Clove Buds. Sweetened by Vanilla and Heliotrope and balanced with other regal flower extracts like Rose and Tuberose Absolute.

L'œillet fragrance notes

  • Head

    • pink pepper, muguet, carnation
  • Heart

    • tuberose, rose, heliotrope, ylang-ylang, clove bud
  • Base

    • vanilla, musk

Absolutely stunned by the vividness of this fragrance. It's like a bright red streak of paint on a blank white canvas.

L'œillet comes on strong with cloves and black pepper, but blooms quickly into a heady carnation: very true to life, in fact more potent than most actual carnations, and closer to their more potently-scented ancestor, the clove pink. Sweet, velvety, and spicy in all the right ways.

It’s not entirely a solo act. There is a subtle presence of rose and tuberose (though my nose “reads” it as more jasmine), a powdery almond-heliotrope, and a muted vanilla, the effect being overall very Caron. Still, this is more naturalistic and “alive” than any classic Caron, more of a soliflore with supporting notes than a classical abstraction (if you want the latter, try this line’s Grace d’Orient).

If anything, this reminds me fondly of JAR’s long-departed Golconda, but dare I say it, I enjoy this more? Golconda hummed a pleasant melody, this one sings from the stage.
