Ralph’s Club Eau de Toilette by Ralph Lauren (2024) is an odd thing, but a good kind of odd. Once upon a time, the eau de toilette option would be the first and default format of a fragrance, and if a lighter option was needed, then you'd move down into a sport thing, or an "eau" thing; or perhaps even something named "cologne" might emerge, with various forms of "fraîche" attached. However, Ralph Lauren broke from that mold by issuing the heavier and more-redolent eau de parfum entry of the line first, establishing the Ralph's Club by Ralph Lauren (2021) range as something more context-sensitive; let me give you a hint - it's in the name - and nobody thought anything of that move because heavier fragrances were then and still are en vogue several years later. Keep this up and we're going to have a 1990's Part 2, with all the apologetic freshies coming back.

However, that all really changed when people started wearing the original (as the lightest option) in their every day affairs, while the upmarket higher concentrations going straight up to a 2023 elixir set the pace for clubbing and social events after hours. So then, Ralph Lauren realized their mistake by jumping the shark and retroactively introduced a baseline eau de toilette that's more balanced than the initial eau de parfum offering, featuring much the same structure but with greater clarity and diffusion. I like this stuff. It's more around what Polo 67 by Ralph Lauren (2024) was trying to be, without the annoying Paco Rabanne Invictus (2013) side-glance. The same focus on a sweetened lavender apple geranium and patchouli is there, without the heavy woody-ambers in the base. This does lose some of the fougère qualities the eau de parfum had in the dry down, but I can abide that.

Of course, the usual numbskulls clamoring for "beastmode" everything have dismissed this fragrance, and that's the usual culture of the men's buying market these days as we are effectively in a dating scene arms race for who can produce and who can wear the loudest and most-obnoxious chemical mess; as if anyone wanting to date is going to be attracted to a miasmic cloud capable of causing asthma attacks within a five mile radius of the "Brocolli Boy" doused in his favorite flavor of bubblegum showergel. Something about the fragrance wearing the man and not the man wearing the fragrance as has been said elsewhere. Here with Ralph's Club Eau de Toilette, we have an actual sensible daily driver version of the line that would be my first choice if I was looking to purchase into the range. Better late than never Thumbs up

One thing I can appreciate about the Ralph's Club line of fragrances is that they are a dumb reach fragrance.

Nothing is new or revolutionary and there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you just want to smell good and be done with it.

Ralph's Club isn't targeted towards the niche snobs or those who insist on creativity or uniqueness. There's nothing wrong with that, but understand that the majority of men are just looking for a fragrance that smells good to them and their partner.

With that exposition aside, this opens with a heavy dose of lavandin/lavender and some mix of fruits like apple and a citrus for a little bit of sweetness.

Some floral touches from geranium (slightly greenish rose) and a savory sage take up much of the heart notes with the lavender continuing on.

As the base notes appear there is a fluffy musk overlaying the slightly sweaty smelling cashmeran.

Any woody aspect from the vetiver and patchouli are lost on me.

This fragrance, as an EDT, does scream off the skin initially and can fill a room if over sprayed. As it begins to transition to the dry down it regains composure and continues on as a pleasant scent bubble.

The bottle is attractive, and the box is simple and elegant looking.

Price might be a concern for the budget minded, but you do get suitable quality for the price.
