A most sophisticated bright and spicy scent, said to be as fresh as a Bermuda dawn.

To me, this smells like it's mostly mandarin aldehyde, which smells briefly like artificial but pleasant citrus, but quickly gets plasticky, and ends up with that raw frothy-egg-white aldehyde base. There seems to be a tiny amount of something green in there as well, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's hedione or some other chemical adding brightness, but the mandarin aldehyde notes account for almost all that I'm smelling here.
This leaves me unsure when it comes to writing an objective review. I've said many times that sometimes letting an individual ingredient sing, only lightly adorned, can be great. A simple rose attar can be blissful. Orange blossom perfumes get better the less they mess with the actual orange blossom. Even the slightly suspect Molecule brand works for me because they choose perfume ingredients that smell great on their own. But I just don't think Mandarin Aldehyde smells that good. Plasticky, eggy, and artificial - while this is definitely a personal preference, I don't want to smell like it, so I'm ultimately voting thumbs down.

The Royall Mandarin is exactly what you might expect. A clean, fresh citrusy splash, perfect on a hot day and after a shave. The negative reviewers seem to want to compare it (and the rest of the line) to complex and expensive fragrances. It's NOT.
If you wish to apply an EdT later, you'll have no competition from the Mandarin.
Go in with your eyes wide open and you won't be disappointed.

This doesn't smell like orange juice. Orange Sanguine smells like OJ. Royall Mandarin does smell like candied oranges though. Sugary, sweet and synthetic after about a minute. The first minute though, it actually smells quite natural. The dry down is a bit musky.. similar to the dry downs from Lyme and Muske. The dry down also smells very much like Drakkar Noir's, uncannily similar. Like others have said, longevity and projection are both very poor. Save your money and buy something from Hermes.
Interesting and pleasant opening, but goes down hill from there The first whiff is lovely and extremely pleasant. It evokes a citrus grove of oranges and limes in blossom. The stuff dissipates and fades very quickly. An hour later, maybe two ... it's gone. I disagree with those who say it is one dimensional. Not at all. It is unusual blend that is rather complex: predominantly mandarin oranges and lime (yes, the lime is quite pronounced!) there are hints of other citrusy things like blood orange, bergamot, and grapefruit; but as someone else noted it has a touch of spiciness as well. It is not too sweet. It is ephemeral - it does not last. It fades into a soapy scent and then disappears completely. I will not be buying this in the future.Pros: Very citrus and orangyCons: Short lived"
Get a bottle of Tropicana OJ and douse yourself in the juice and you'll have the same effect as with Royall Mandarin with about the same longevity.
The only advantage of RM is that you don't get sticky.
Forget about this scent, not worth the extravagant price.

A pleasant orange/mandarine scent, but lacks the sophistication of citrus scents such as Creed Virgin Island. This can be forgiven, since it's 1/10 the price. However, I can't recommend it because it doesn't last. I liked it enough that I made the attempt to move it to a spray bottle. This helped, but I would still have to apply more than I am comfortable doing to gain any sillage or longetivity.
