Earthy, spiced rose at first. Becomes slightly candied within minutes. I can really smell the nutmeg note.
Top notes blend into the middle very well, which resemble a typical "finish" to an oud-type fragrance. In other words, a resinous patchouli-oud vibe. Greasy, petrochemical meets barnyard, hamster cage funk. I love it!
Skank eventually eases down. The resinous scent remains. Very pleasant! Could've used a sulphur note in the beginning, for interest.
4 stars.

Yet another rose-oud, but a pretty good one. The rose here is ripe-fruity and sweet, enrobed in spices and abstract, ambered darkness.
It's vaguely Tom Ford-y in ambiance, but the base is more rounded than that of most Tom Fords. In the opening, ginger and nutmeg is prominent, giving the sweetened rose a confection facet. The dark woods beneath it contain earthy, medicinal tones and flickers of labdanum veiled in smoky cistus.
Volcano feels like it has a flanker relationship of sorts with Black Calamus, which is what you'd get if you stripped out the sweet rose and were left only with the dark woods. (Between the two, I'm partial to Black Calamus.)
