For as long as I could remember, I've enjoyed tearing a few leaves from any plant I encounter to crumple them up in my hand and smell them. Sometimes I was met with a noxious odor, but more often, there was something pleasant or at least intriguing to my nose. Globulus (as in the Latin name Eucalyptus globulus) recalls crushing leaves, whether that of eucalyptus—right off the tree, or that of various herbs in the garden, or weeds in the meadow, maybe even plants in the dunes by the ocean.

Here, what are most salient are eucalyptus and clary sage: the camphoraceous, vegetal quality of the former modulated by the grassy-fresh herbaceous nature of the latter. A fresh peppermint leaf renders it cool and breezy, and most notably, Bonneville's use of Cascalone, a watery, sweet-floral variant of Calone, ingeniously elevates all the elements. The result is an evocative fresh, vivid blue-green crushed leaves aromatic that captivates me.
