Indulge me – a fantasy of mine is to go to on Masterchef one day and wow the judges with a dessert inspired by Artisan’s Safran Troublant (the rose element would have to be a delicate shivery jelly). Of course, in reality traffic the other way is much more common – perfumes inspired by desserts. And as such Halwa Kiss does its job well, offering the sweetness of halwa (not necessarily the honey mentioned in the declared list) with a layering of faint lightly toasted nutty notes (sesame, pistachio), a creamy fattiness, and hints of rosewater and cardamom. The main thing is that the somewhat chunky rich sweetness of halwa is delivered in bearable, wearable form rather than as a quicksand pit. Hence, I suspect the ‘kiss’ of the name – a peck on the cheek rather than a halwa-slathered roiling of tongues.
