Stem captures our idea of a deconstructed garden, bringing to life the secondary scents or quieter facets of floristry that are often overlooked: the crispness of freshly cut stems, the aroma of crushed leaves and of rich soil. These scents are as beautiful and evocative as the flower itself, yet they are often edited out of fragrances. Stem is what lingers on our clippers, hands and clothes while the flowers brighten the kitchen or a bedroom. These are the stalks of green hyacinth and dewy muguet, a fresh blend of mandarin leaves, florets of hyacinth and greens from wild freesia. All are softened by a trio of modern musk molecules to give the composition radiance, texture and sensuality.

Malin + Goetz has this glorious daffodil stem note at the top. Not the flower, but the thick stem itself including the sap.
Unfortunately, that interesting opening disappears quickly into a generically pleasant hyacinth/freesia/light jasmine floral on an ambroxan green base.

The worst part is that as my 10mL decant aged, that stem note became progressively fainter.
It didn't appear at all in my final wearing.
It's a real shame because that stem note is what made this scent interesting.
The rest of it is a generic light green spring floral.
Wearable, but boring.

Back in the 00's, we used to call these "aquatic florals", a mix of lily chemicals, cucumber, and l'Eau d'Issey-esque "marine" chemicals. They've fallen from favor, especially as the lily chemicals they rely on have had their usage concentrations limited by IFRA in the years since then, so it's interesting to smell a new one. This has an interesting dirty grit and a nice, milky richness underneath the lilies which gives it a pleasant richness and keeps it from smelling like Purell, so I actually rather like it.
